Mittie Root Has Been A Little Busy.

My schedule this summer has been filled to the brim with what might seem like only a little work and a lot of playing. Do not be deceived. I have been working however, working from home has given me the flexibility to play a little more this summer, thus all the fun pictures. I am so thankful to be working alongside my husband and his twin brother. The best part? I am freed up to play and write new music!

I have only one true love, my husband but there are definitely many things that I take delight in. Here are a few (in no particular order):

  1. My Family. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful family. We love to celebrate birthdays and most any holiday together. We recently celebrated my Grandpa’s 85th birthday. Including children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren, there are 35 of us to testify to the incredible life he has lived.
  2. Baking. I love to make pies from scratch. Pitting cherries by hand, peeling apples in one long ribbon, feeling for the right dough consistency, having the smell of a baking pie permeate our apartment, and then of course sharing it with ones that I love. I could go on and on….
  3. Music. Makes sense as I am a musician, but it’s true. Music moves me. Correction, music that people write on their own and perform moves me. There is just something powerful that happens when people are exposed, sharing lyrics and playing music from their life. Genuine, authentic, non-commercialized. Sweet.
  4. Friends. We have made many new friends this year. People in Campbellsville, KY, Fort Thomas, KY, Indianapolis, IN, Hudson, OH, Cincinnati, OH, Las Vegas, NV, Wichita, KS and more. People who have graciously opened their homes to us on our travels. People who have treated us like royalty without even knowing us. People who continue to encourage us along despite the miles. How thankful we are for each one of them.
  5. Time with my husband. We have spent numerous hours on the road this summer. Fort Thomas, KY to Wichita, KS to Campbellsville, KY to Indianapolis, IN, back to Fort Thomas to Norris, TN and back, and then to Hudson, OH (Cleveland area) and back again. AND WE STILL LOVE EACH OTHER! Fishing, hiking, camping, planting, harvesting, planning, rearranging, learning – it is wonderful. He is wonderful. It keeps getting better the more love and effort we put into it.

So that’s what has been on my heart this summer. Hopefully these things will turn into new melodies as I begin to write again. Looking forward to a change of seasons, both in the leaves and in my soul.
